Katherine Anne Poole

Passed on: November 22nd, 2010

54, of Goose River, P.E.I., died Monday, November 22, 2010, after a long illness.
She is survived by her loving partner, Susan Traill; her beloved daughter, Megan Nichole Poole; her mother, Mary (MacKinnon) Poole; her aunt, Henrietta (MacKinnon) Morrison; and her brothers, Barry, Leslie, David, Randy and Alex Poole; and was predeceased by her father, Milton Poole.
Kate grew up at Poole's Corner. She enjoyed traveling, but remained a lifelong resident of P.E.I. Ever the renaissance woman, she explored myriad interests and her artistic talents; refining her expression in wood-working, stained-glass and glass etching, painting, jewelry, film-making, singing, songwriting and music.
Kate studied forestry in New Brunswick and returned to work as a forestry technician in the Forestry Department and later at MacPhail Woods, Orwell, where she also created the displays in the education center. Kate's life grew to center around her spirituality and for many years she led a weekly "Course In Miracles" group in Charlottetown. She introduced Laughter Yoga to P.E.I. and held drumming circles on a regular basis. She also co-founded with Teresa Doyle the Rock Barra Artist Retreat on the north shore of Kings County where she created the popular woodland trail and grounds and gardens and conducted workshops there in the summers. The Rock Barra Artist Retreat showcases local musical talent with weekly house concerts during the summer. Weekend workshops involving spirituality, healing, wild-edibles, stone carving and various other pursuits. Kate considered Rock Barra her sanctuary.
Besides being remembered for her exquisite art and creations she will be remembered most for her outrageous courage, crazy down-to-earth humour, ever curious mind, BIG BIG HEART, sweet sweet singing, colourful storytelling, great hugs and the eyes and face of an angel. The wonder of Kate is that she was not a saint, but fully human - a one of a kind. She will be deeply missed.
A Celebration of Life gathering for Kate Poole will be held on Sunday, Dec. 12, starting at 3 p.m. at the Benevolent Irish Society, 582 North River Road in Charlottetown. This is an opportunity for her family and friends to honour her memory. Those wishing, may bring flowers to the celebration or give a monetary donation to the Rock Barra Retreat c/o Teresa Doyle, RR3 Belfast, PE, C0A 1A0 or MacPhail Woods Forestry Project c/o Gary Schneider, Box 11, Belfast, PE, C0A 1A0.
