Ryan Lawrence Toney of 5001 Shore Rd., Eskasoni, passed away suddenly on Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010.
Born in Truro, he was the son of Carol (Paul) Williams of Windsor, N.S.; Benedict (Annie) Toney of Waycobah, and Diane Erickson of Boston. He was a member of Holy Family parish in Eskasoni. Ryan was an active member of Eskasoni Uechi-Ryu and Judo clubs. He loved to go fishing. He was employed with MLSN (Mi'kmaq Legal Support Network) and other community organizations.
Surviving are his common-law partner, Melinda Herney of Eskasoni and ex-wife, Dawn Stevens of Eskasoni; daughters, Denae, Cayden, Damaris; step-daughters, Julianna, Keeley, Keyanna, Kellee; sons, Dasan, Dre, Denon "Ryan Ji-J"; and by granddaughter, Carley and grandson, Malik. He is also survived by sisters, Donna Marie Toney, Boston, Elsie Ann Williams, Windsor, Shona Henderson, Guelph, Ont., Rosie (Jibby) Paul, Eskasoni, Tanya (Carl) MacVicar, Grand Prairie, Alta.; brothers, Peter J. (Mandy) Marshall, Eskasoni, Jacob (Megan) Williams, Windsor, David 'DeeDee' Williams, Windsor, James (Lianne) Sarson, Dartmouth, William Jedore, Bryant Marshall, Eskasoni; his maternal grandmother, Matilda Benot; five godchildren, Devon, Mika, Blake, Carmen and Nathaniel; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
He was predeceased by his mother, Mary Helen Marshall 'Eia'; his father, Peter Marshall Sr.; his sister, Joanne (Marshall) Shalbi and his father, Stanley 'LumLum' Googoo of Indian Brook.
Visitation will take place Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010 after 7 p.m. at the Gabriel Center, Eskasoni. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010 at Holy Family Church with Rev. Martin MacDougall officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery.
