It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our husband, father, brother and grandfather, James Edward Gear, 74, resident of Brook Street, North Sydney on Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2011, at his home.
Born in Florence, he was a son of the late James and Gertrude (Boutilier) Gear.
He was employed as a coal miner working with Devco for many years. He was an adherent to the United Church.
Surviving is his wife, Lois MacKinnon; a daughter, Laurel (Joe) Kirrane, Virginia, U.S.A.; five sons, Roy (Kim), Blaine (Patti), Kevin (Shelly), all of Ontario, Michael (Bernice), North Sydney, and Gordon (Maria) Gear, Sydney Mines; two sisters, Gertie Slade (Junior Morris), North Sydney, Pauline Gear, Florence; also by 19 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
James was predeceased by a son, James, a daughter, Lois, sisters, Doris, Ada, Edna and brothers, Bill, John, Gordon.
No visitation by request. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. today (Monday) in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home Chapel, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney, with Rev. David Luker officiating. Burial to take place in Brookside Cemetery, Sydney Mines, at a later date.
