It is with heavy hearts that we, the family announce the peaceful passing of Edward Anthony Clements, 63, of New Waterford on Friday, Jan. 28, 2011, at the Halifax Infirmary, with his loving family by his side.
Born and raised in New Waterford, Edward was the son of the late Wilfred and Elizabeth (Carrigan) Clements.
Eddy was a member of the former St. Agnes parish, and now St. Leonard's.
He drove truck in his early years and then drove taxi with City Wide Taxi in Sydney for 10 years and then Midway Taxi in New Waterford until his illness.
Known to most as 'Fast Eddy' he enjoyed his work and his relationships with his many regular customers. Eddy had a soft and pleasant personality and was helping others whenever he could.
He was a very proud member of the local AA's for 18 years.
Left to mourn his passing are his companion and best friend of 28 years, Marion Reid; loving daughter, Cindy and son, Edward (Melanie), both of Mississauga, Ont.; sisters, Dorothy Bishop Lingan, Ethel (Carl) DeSalvo, Coldbrook, Ont., Pauline (Frank) Selvet, Emberence (Richard) Burke, both of New Waterford, Gatha (Allan) Crowell, Porters Lake, N.S.; brothers, Thomas (Chris), Ajax, Ont.; Freeman, Brantford, Ont.; Gussie (Shirley), William (Pat), both of Dartmouth, Gary (Karen), Moncton, N.B., Charles, Dominion. His three beautiful grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Eddy will be sadly missed by his two nephews, Bradley and Frank, whom he had a special relationship with. As well as numerous nieces and nephews and many great friends.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers in infancy as well as brothers, Russell, Wilfred, John and his sister, Ella.
There will be no visitation as per Eddy's request; cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Mclellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration will take place on Saturday, Feb. 5 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard's with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Interment will take place in the spring. A luncheon will be held immediately following the mass at the parish hall, 310 Convent St., all are welcome.
