MURRAY - Phyllis Murray passed away peacefully July 5, 2009, with her family at her side in the Swift Current Regional Hospital. She married her high school sweetheart, Max Murray, July 6, 1941, and farmed in the Tompkins area until Max passed away in 1994. She then moved into the Marshview Manor in Tompkins until her passing in 2009. From this union three children were born, Marsha, Laird (Margaret), Morley (Jean) and a chosen son, Dennis Jones (Rosalie). Grandchildren consisted of Mike (Karen), Jason (Tammy), Ronald (Cynthia) Murray, Jennifer (Glen) La Grange, David (Sarah) Jones. Great grandchildren consisted of Rachael, Mark, Jewelya, Conner, Kamea, Kalena Murray, Bailie, Parker La Grange. Phyllis has two surviving brothers, Bill and Larry (Sandy) McLavish. Phyllis was predeceased by her father, Joseph in 1924; daughter, Marsha in 1945; mother, Hannah in 1989; husband, Max in 1994; sister-in-law, Kay in 2008. Phyllis was very active in the community enjoying travel, curling, tennis, skating, golf, shooting, cards, dancing and visiting neighbours and participated as a volunteer and member of many organizations. The celebrations of Phyllis Murray’s life were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 13, 2009 at the Tompkins Community Centre with Pastor Gordon Willison officiating. The eulogy was given by Laird Murray. A duet was performed by Helena Leiding and Margaret Murray accompanied by Connie Sykes on piano. An honour guard of Rebekah Lodge members attended. Ushers were Dan Corfield, Blake McGregor, Bill McIntyre. A poem about Phyllis was composed and read by Sherril Forsyth. Interment took place at the Tompkins Cemetery with piper Neil McCrie playing a medley of Scottish songs. To email an expression of sympathy you may visit www.gonebutnotforgotten.ca.
