It is with profound sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of John Alexander Currie on Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2009.
Born in Sydney on May 26, 1947, he was the son of the late John and Christine (Gillis) Currie. John was a devoted member of St. Mary’s parish, Frenchvale.
He was employed at Ron May Pontiac as a salesman until his retirement in 1991. He was a member of the Frenchvale Senior Citizens Club, also an affiliated member of the Frenchvale Volunteer Fire Dept. John enjoyed playing cards and socializing at both Frenchvale and Boisdale clubs. John could always be counted on to volunteer his time in many different ways to support his church and community.
Left to mourn is his wife of 40 years, Margaret Ellen (DeLeskie) and daughters, Juanita, Melissa and Alana. He is also survived by sisters, Jean (Roddie) Musgrave, Frenchvale; Martina Coffin, Sydney, Dianne Currie, Montreal, Carolyn (Ross MacDonald), Sydney, Darlene (Edward) Gilson, Ottawa, Elaine (Sheldon) Mikkelsen, Mira Gut; brothers, Larry (Susan), Wilmot, NS and Darrell, Calgary. John will be fondly remembered by his sister-in-law, Theresa (Reg) MacNeil and brothers-in-law, Raymond (Donna) DeLeskie, Johnnie (Donna) DeLeskie, Daniel (Carolyn) DeLeskie, Frank MacEachern and by his many nieces, nephews and close friends.
John was predeceased by his daughter, Kimberly; brother, John Patrick in infancy and brothers-in-law, Carmen Coffin and Michael DeLeskie.
Visitation for Mr. Currie will be held at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel on Saturday from 7-9 p.m. and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, Frenchvale on Monday at 11 a.m. with Fr. Paul Abbass officiating. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
Donations in John’s memory may be made to the Parish of St. Mary’s, Frenchvale.
