LOVELY – Kenneth Orwelle, it is with sadness the family announces the passing of Ken Lovely on August 21, 2009, at the age of 94 years at the Herbert Integrated Health Facility. Dad was born near Boharm, SK, on March 20, 1915. He was the fifth in a family of six born to Bill and Lottie Lovely. The Lovely family moved to Hazenmore, SK, in 1919 where Dad grew up and attended school. Dad married Viola Florence Andrews on October 19, 1938. They celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary one month before Mom passed away in 2004. To this marriage were born two daughters, Marlene and Wendy. Mom and Dad resided at Hazenmore until 1976 when they moved to Swift Current. In Swift Current they owned two different homes before moving to the Bentley in 2001. Dad resided at the Bentley until June 2009 when he was moved to the Wolf Willow Health Centre in Eastend. In July he was moved to Herbert so that he would be closer to family. From 1935-1936 Dad worked at McBride’s store part-time and from 1938-1942 he worked at Haddad’s store both of which were in Hazenmore. Dad started the Co-op store at Hazenmore between 1942 and 1943 and managed it for a total of 28 years. He enlisted for military service on December 6, 1943, and during his time overseas his brother Ern Lovely managed the Co-op store. Dad purchased 3 quarters of land north of Hazenmore in 1949 and farmed until 1976. During Dads military service he was sent to Kingston, Ontario for training with the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals. He also took driver training at Woodstock, Ontario before being shipped overseas in January 1944. He served in England, Belgium, Germany and Holland. He arrived back in Canada on June 21, 1946 having reached the rank of Corporal. In his younger days Dad enjoyed playing ball and hockey. He also curled at Hazenmore when time permitted. Dad served on the Village Council of Hazenmore for about twenty years and as secretary of the curling club and the Co-op board for a few years. He was hard working, honest and had a good sense of humor. Dad also collected stamps and coins which have been passed down to his children. Mom and dad also enjoyed vacations to Hawaii, California, Florida and a cruise to the Bahamas. Every summer they spent the months of July and August in their travel trailer and especially enjoyed Banff and Jasper. Dad delighted in spending time with his grandchildren and could often be found down on the floor playing with them. The grandchildren all have special memories of their time with Grandpa. Dad was predeceased by his wife, Vi in November 2004; parents Bill and Lottie Lovely; his siblings: Ern and wife Margaret, Dertha and husband Joe Banks, Fred and wife Britta and Graham. He was also predeceased by his in-laws, Alfred and Lydia Andrews, Mel and Ruby Aasen, Fred and Annie Loverin, Bob and Verna Mahon and Jack Bender; as well nieces, Lynn (Mahon) Revesz, Donelda (Banks) O’Brien, and nephew, Dallas Banks. Dad is survived by his daughters Marlene (Brian) Little, and Wendy (Ron) Regier; grandchildren: Randy (Myrna) Chase, Cindy (Dean) Watson, Russell (Laura) Chase, Percy (Carmen) Chase, Richelle and Lindsay Regier; great grandchildren: Ryan (Tammy) Chase, Renee (Aaron) Chase, Jesse (Shawna and Blake) Dauphinais, Tyler (Rebecca) Chase, Stephanie and Christopher Chase; and great-great grandson Mason Chase. As well, Dad is survived by his sister Willa and husband Gordon Higginson; and sisters-in-law Gladys Bender and Joan Lovely along with several nieces and nephews. Rest in peace Dad. Our memories of you will remain strong. A funeral service was held on Tuesday, August 25, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. from Parkside Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Bonita Chad officiating.
