O’BRIEN - It is with heavy hearts that we the family of Elizabeth Adele O’Brien announce the peaceful passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt on September 21, 2009. Elizabeth Adele Johnston was born March 28, 1922, in Penzance, SK, the youngest of four children born to Thomas and Agnes Johnston. Adele was raised in and around Estevan. She married Ronald Gall of the Calderbank district in 1940. Adele was active with the Ladies Aid and 4-H. Adele and Ron’s very small house was always busting at the seams with friends, neighbours and of course with kids, their own and the neighbours. Everyone was welcome for coffee and a visit. Adele was the typical farm wife working along side her husband - cooking, cleaning, doing chores, hauling water, driving the little tractor (right through the garage), hauling the mail, making wigs for the less fortunate and knitting and mending. Adele always said, “She had running water-running but it was her running it up and down the hill.” After Ron’s death in 1963, Adele, Gary, Denise and Laurie moved into Morse. There Adele worked at numerous jobs including cleaning, Travis’ Hardware store, Elkhorn Hotel, wrapping meat, sorting mail, babysitting and cooking for the CPR crews which took her up and down the line where she made even more friends. Adele was a member of The Royal Purple in Morse and also enjoyed her bingo nights. In 1977, Adele married Howard O’Brien of Saskatoon and expanded her family to include Howard’s three children. After Howard retired they moved back to Morse, where they spent their time eating out, traveling to graduations and weddings, babysitting, attending sporting events, drama plays, and school concerts, anywhere the grandkids were. Adele looked forward to Morse kindergarten graduation and was at every one including these years. She loved decorating their house and yard for all occasions, but especially Christmas where we are sure their house could be seen from outer space. After Howard’s death in 2002, Adele decided on her own to move into Prairie View Lodge in Swift Current, where she again made more very dear friends who were very good to her. Adele especially enjoyed Tuesday morning coffee and the companionship at supper. Adele had a heart attack a year ago; she fought hard to come back to her apartment where she lived happily until her passing. Adele was very proud of all her children. She loved to visit and have a good laugh. Her laughter, friendship and bright blue eyes will be with us always. Adele is survived by her children: Bruce Gall (Pat), grandson Ron (Alison), great-grandson Robert; granddaughters, Stacey Anderson (Orin), great-grandchildren Blayne, Rylie, and Chetten; Trish Blanchard (Shawn) great-grandchildren Zack, Tucker and Falyn; Doug Gall (Judy); Marilyn Jahnke (Neil), granddaughter J.J., great-grandson Wyatt, grandson Shane (Natasha), great-granddaughter Savannah; Gary Gall (Mae) granddaughters Annette Ihaksi (Rick) great-grandchildren Ashley, Erik, and James; Kathy Usher (Kevin) great-grandchildren Luke and Kiley, grandson Brent Gall (Christine) great-grandchildren Brody and Carson; Denise Leisle (Wayne) grandsons Stephen, Jarred (Amanda) and Matt (Stephanie); Laurie Giesbrecht (Murray); Ron O’Brien (Merle) granddaughters Rhea, Lianne Friesen (Kevin), grandsons Tyler and Brendan; Tracey Nurse (Richard) grandchildren Corbin and Kylie, Carla Crawford (Rob); Leonard O’Brien (Pat) grandchildren Chris, Kyle and Jaime: Judy Cross, grandson Robert (Amber), great- granddaughter Kyley; sisters-in-law Vi Gall, Evelyn (Brian) Ball; and many nieces and nephews. Following memorialization at the Ernfold Cemetery, A Time of Remembrance was held for Adele at the Morse Community Hall on Saturday October 3, 2009. In living memory of Adele, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by Prairie Memorial Funeral Home, Chaplin, SK. Please sign the memorial register at website: www.wjjonesandson.com (Obituaries).
