It is with sadness that we, the family of Mary Ellen, announce her passing on Oct. 13, 2009, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, after a brief illness.
Mary was born in Sydney Mines to parents, John and Katherine Williston.
She grew up in Sydney where she met and married her husband, Murdock MacDonald. Together, they had seven children and lived in Sydney and in Boucherville, Que.
Mary lived a wonderful life. She enjoyed the company of others and throughout her earlier years, played bridge, darts and belonged to a bowling league. She loved spending time with family and friends and liked nothing more than her Friday night gatherings. In recent years, Mary especially loved her two days a week at the Salvation Army Senior Daycare, where she made many friends of whom she spoke often.
Mary is survived by her brother, Floyd (Elsie), Winnipeg; daughters, Corry Ciambella (Serafino), Montreal, Katherine Boyko, Sydney, and Betty Aboud, Sydney; sons, Jack (Sylvia), Ottawa, George (Gina), Halifax, and Bill, Ottawa; 16 grandchildren, Troy, Kim, Scott, David, Gary, Nick, Paul, Amy, Jenny, Matthew, Kelsey, Kelly, Cindy, Katie, Andrea and James; and 12 great-grandchildren, Will, Julia, Georgia, Sam, Jake, Sophie, Dylan, Rebbeka, Luca, James, Bella and Malcolm.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, Murdock, son, Jimmy, brothers, Johnny, Harry, David, Albert, Malcolm, Royce and Arthur, one sister, Isabel, stepbrothers, Jack and Dan and stepsister, Nellie.
Visitation for Mary will take place today (Thursday) Oct. 15 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Sydney Memorial Chapel. Funeral service will be held Fridaya, Oct. 16 at 11 a.m. at Bethel Presbyterian Church.
Donations in memory of Mary can be made to the Salvation Army.
