It is with great sadness that Heather, Bradley and Kelly Jo announce the sudden passing of Thomas David ‘Tom’ Murrin on Tuesday, Oct.13, 2009 at home with his wife, Heather and best friend Ted Morrison by his side.
Born in Glace Bay, Tom was the son of the late Daniel and Bessie (MacDonald) Murrin.
He was a member of St. Anthony’s Church, Glace Bay. Tom was employed as a school teacher and principal with the Cape Breton-Victoria Regional School Board. He coached hockey at St. Michael’s High School with his brother, Dan. He also enjoyed baseball, carpentry and working on cars, especially his granddaughter, Halie’s VW. In his younger years, Tom was involved in the militia. He was a member of the Lingan Golf and Country Club and the Passchendaele Golf Club.
Tom served on the board of directors of the Honeymoon Mobile Park, Dunedin, Florida where he spent several enjoyable winters with his wife and both new and old friends.
Tom graduated from St. Michael’s High School, St. Francis Xavier University (Education) and Mount St. Vincent University (Masters of Education).
He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 42 years, Heather (Thompson) Murrin; son, Bradley (Heather), Dartmouth, his pride and joy, granddaughters, Halie and Abigail; special niece, Kelli-Jo O’ Neill-Duvall (Rob), Frankford, ON and her two sons, Riley and Spencer. Tom is also survived by a sister, Dorita Wadden (Stan), Spryfield; five brothers, Ed (Margie), Antigonish, Gerald (Sis), Glace Bay, Eric (Jeannette), Glace Bay, Vernon (Lois), Ottawa, Dan (Rose), Glace Bay; mother-in-law, Frances Thompson; nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Tom was predeceased by his father-in-law, Stewart.
He was a gentleman and incredible husband, father, grandfather and loyal friend. Tom will be sadly missed by close friends, Teddy and Mary Morrison, John ‘Mutt’ and Linda Morris.
In honouring Tom’s wishes, cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass to celebrate Tom’s life will be officiated by Fr. Leo Boone on Friday at 2 p.m. in St. Anthony’s Church, Glace Bay.
