NEW GLASGOW – It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Ethel Marion Jardine.
Born in Fox Brook, Pictou County, she was the daughter of the late John A. and Isobel (Smith) MacIntosh.
She was first employed with Goodman Co. Ltd. in New Glasgow. Following graduation in 1953 from the Canadian Vocational Training Centre in Halifax, she was employed with the Department of National Defense, Headquarters Eastern Command, Halifax, and later with Thompson and Sutherland Ltd., New Glasgow. She was a resident of New Glasgow since l954, lived in Riverview, NB for 11 years, and returned to New Glasgow in 1987.
Ethel was a member of First Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow and the Catherine Mair Auxiliary Atlantic Mission Society. She was member of Silver Light Rebekah Lodge #79, Hopewell, the Ladies Auxiliary to Canton Dryden #2 branch of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and a recipient of the Decoration of Chivalry. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Royal Canadian Legion to Branch 137, Hopewell, a former member of the Fox Brook Women’s Institute and a volunteer with Meals on Wheels. She had a strong faith and cherished her family and friends. We will miss her optimistic spirit, quick wit and kind nature.
She is survived by her daughters, Leanne (Matthew Tweedie), Fredericton, NB; and Laurel (Christoph) Rankin, Kingston, Ontario; and son, Stephen (Lisa), Quispamsis, NB; five grandchildren: Emily, Kathleen and Andrea Rankin, Elliot and Ava Jardine. Also survived by her sister, Margaret MacIntosh, Stellarton; sisters-in-law: Muriel MacIntosh, Riverton; Lyla MacIntosh, Stellarton; and Etta Hirtle, Hopewell; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Leonard, in June of this year; and brothers: Elliot, Clarence, Lloyd and Roddie MacIntosh.
Visitation will be Saturday, November 21st from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. The Silver Light Rebekah Lodge will conduct their service at 6:45 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Funeral service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow, Sunday, November 22nd at 2 p.m., with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall. Burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery.
Family flowers only please. Memorial donations to the Canadian Bible Society, First Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
