Born at Scotchtown , Nova Scotia , Canada
With sadness, we announce the passing of David George Kaifosh, 78, of Catherine Street, Scotchtown on Nov. 11, 2009 at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney.
Born in Scotchtown, he was the son of the late John and Eva (David) Kaifosh.
David married twice. He separated from his first wife, Daisy (Butler) Kaifosh, mother of his three children, Fred, Deb and Sandra.
He was predeceased by his second wife, widower Theresa (Scott) Moar.
David’s varied career had him working in a bank, a flower shop, driving a Coca-Cola delivery truck, serving thirteen years in the RCAF as a photographer, including a stint in Zweibrücken, West Germany, where he maintained and modified reconnaissance cameras used on the CF-104 Starfighter. After leaving the air force, he pursued work in the audio visual and printing industries until his retirement. After the death of Theresa, he returned to Scotchtown to keep an eye on his elderly mother, caring for her as long as he could. While in Scotchtown he was an active member of his parish. Like his father, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
In addition to his children, David is survived by his sister, Elsie Nagy; three nephews Michael, Kenneth and Tim Nagy; two first cousins, Margaret (Kaifosh) Lewis and Helen (Kaifosh) Ilkanic; eight grandchildren, Jennifer, David and Brian Le Bel; Patrick and Carol Kaifosh; Erin, Emma and Ari Koivu as well as three great-grandchildren, Madison Goodall-Le Bel, Andrew and Lydia Rose LeBel. He is also survived by his aunt, Violet (David) Nodge and first cousin Mary (Nodge) Smith.
David and his family suffered the ravages of Frontal Lobe Dementia, which insidiously, surreptitiously, and gradually, over the course of several years took him from us and gave back someone whose behavior was not the usual. David’s message is that an older person behaving in odd ways may also be suffering similarly; be kind, be thoughtful, and above all, leave their mementos for the family.
At David's request, a private visitation will be held at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration for David will take place Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard with Father Paul MacNeil officiating. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Port Hawkesbury.
Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
David’s family thanks the staff of Victoria Haven, especially Marie, who displayed great patience with David, in the early and difficult stages of his illness. As well, the staff of Harbourstone Enhanced Care who provided care in his final days, the staff at Seaview Manor who alerted us to his condition, the late Dr. Joseph Roach, Margie Turnbull, Lawrence MacDonald and many others who helped us deal with the difficulties of David’s situation. Although you may not be named, your help, support and advice was always appreciated. To Basil R., Kenny, Basil Sr. and staff of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, we thank you for your guidance and support during our time of grief. A special thanks to Daisy, who visited him on his final day.

"So sorry to hear of Dave's death - Ray and I were neighbours of Dave in Zweibrucken where Ray and Dave worked together. Lots of good memories come to mind. A good person, a great loss to his family."
