A life-time member of the Royal Purple of Canada (St. John’s Lodge 237), The Anglican Church Women as well as many other communities including her continuous volunteer work she provided for the Food Bank, passed peacefully away surrounded by her loving family at the Health Sciences Complex on Tuesday, November 17, 2009, Rita Roberts, aged 74 years. Predeceased by father Joseph, mother Elizabeth (nee King), step-father Herb Peddle, sister Enid Short, brothers-in-law Joseph Roberts, Douglas Peddle, Fred Coats and Allan Turberfield, step-brothers: George and Tom Roberts. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are her husband of 55 years. John; children: John (Debra Downey), Bonita Hollett (Fred), Roger (Wendy) and Karen Bennett (Kirk); grandchildren: Jason and Christopher Hollett, Heather and Adam Roberts, Kristen and Scott Roberts, Megan and Nickolas Bennett; sisters-in-law Mary Peddle, Hazel Cross (Danny), Bertha Coats, Matilda McCarthy, Verna Turberfield and Ethel Allen (William), as well as many other relatives and friends. A special thank you to the nursing staff of 4 South A at the Health Sciences Complex. Resting at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Ave. on Thursday, Nov. 19th from 10 a.m. to 12noon, 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m, and on Friday, Nov. 20th from 9 to 11 a.m. Funeral service will be held from St. Thomas’ Anglican Church on Friday, Nov. 21st at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at the Anglican Cemetery, Kenmount Road.
