It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Greg (Bucky) Buckingham. Following a brief illness, he died peacefully at Royal Inland Hospital with his family by his side.
Greg is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Loretta, his children: Jeanette (Christian) Espanola and Christine (Kevin) Ferrigan and his special granddaughter "Kayla Bear" Kayla Ferrigan. He is also survived by his father David (Bea) Buckingham, his sister Diane Pausche, his brother David Buckingham, his mother and father in-law Ruth and George Galics, numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, friends and his beloved little companion Leroy.
His mother Irene Buckingham and sister-in-law Sylvia Martin predeceased Greg in 1994.
Greg was born in Hanna, Alberta and moved to Kamloops in 1965 with his family. He worked for CN Rail from 1972-2006. His greatest accomplishment was to receive the President's Award of Excellence in Operational Breakthrough. He was recognized for his initiative, creativity and dedication to CN's goals and success. Over the years Greg enjoyed cooking, golfing and flying model airplanes. He would never pass up the chance to cheer on his favorite hockey team the Toronto Maple Leafs. Greg and Loretta went on many trips over the years and met people from all over the world but Kamloops was always home.
A Celebration honoring Greg's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 6, 2009 at the Press Box (McArthur Island).
A special thanks to the staff in the ICU at the Royal Inland Hospital for all of their compassion and support during this difficult time.
