Donald Stewart

Born In: Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada

Passed in: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada
Passed on: December 6th, 2009

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Don on Sunday, Dec. 6, 2009, after a brief illness with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family when he left this world and entered another. Don worked for several years as a radio announcer with CJCB and CHER radio; and with other stations around Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Ontario. Don moved to Ontario in 1987 where he became the chief security officer for Honeywell. Also, while in Ontario, Don became a father; and his son, Daniel was his pride and joy. Eight years ago, Don moved back to CB, the home of his heart.
He was predeceased by his mother, Hilda, sister, Virginia Anne, and brother, Gary Clarence.
Don is survived by his father, Clarence; son, Daniel; brothers, Bob, his best friend to whom he was closely bonded and Charles (Barb), both of Glace Bay, Angus (Mel) and Gary (Jean), both of Ontario; sisters, Ginny MacLean, Marg (Don) Vaters, Kathleen (Adrian) Bona, all of Glace Bay; many nieces and nephews.
A special thank you goes out to Audrey Turnbull RN, who was Don’s Florence Nightingale and also to Glenn MacNamara, who was a true friend to Don. Don was a truly gentle man and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service led by Rev. Conrad Edwards will be held Dec. 16 (next Wednesday) 11 a.m. in Curry’s Funeral Chapel, 775 Main St., Glace Bay.
Donations in Don’s memory may be made to a charity of choice.
Online condolences may be sent to jmcurry@ns.sympatico.ca.
