Bert Hinch

Born In: Canada

Passed in: Canada

Bert Hinch June 17, 1950 - April 19, 2007 Bert is survived by his father, Ross Hinch (Betty), mother Carolyn Kuhn (Gerhart), sons, Michael Hinch and John Hinch (Aerin Zimonick), their mother, Gail Hinch (Robert Haywood), her children Dana Wyse and Peter Wyse (Beckie) and grandson, Noah, his brother Mark Hinch, sister Andrea Bournes (Jim) and step-brothers, Craig Hinch and Thomas Hinch. He is also survived by his niece, Colleen Bournes, nephews Eric Bournes, Tony Harkness, Paul Harkness, Lance MacDougall and Kevin Sandy. Bert was predeceased by his grandparents, and his brother Dean Hinch (1996), and Dean's twin sister, Dawn MacDougall (2006). Moving to Kamloops from Brandon, Manitoba in the year 1972 to work for CP Rail as a trainman, Bert went on to work as a conductor, engineer, and finally as a Road Manager until his retirement at the age of 53. His boys have many fond memories of days spent at the ball park, camping in the Rockies, fishing in many lakes and rivers and skiing with their family at a young age at Tod Mountain. Bert was an athlete, and a great competitor. He excelled at most every sport in which he was involved. He played hardball and had occasion to pitch in the last inning of a "bases loaded" game in the Kamloops International Baseball Tournament. He played fastball on several winning teams, and was best known for his ability to throw to a target, whether from centre field, or as the catcher at home plate. He would play any position, just to be involved in the game. He became a member of Rivershore Golf Club shortly after it opened and played there with a great circle of friends for many years. Bert was probably best known for his involvement in the sport of Curling, which he took up at the age of 6 at the one sheet Curling Rink just down the road from his family's farm in Roseland, Manitoba. He was on the executive of the Kamloops Curling Club for several years and played in both the Men's League and Super League over the years. It is not every man who has his dream come true. Bert's dream, when he was a young man, was to play in the Brier. He was fortunate to have this dream come true on two occasions - in 1996 (where he was the all star lead) and again in 1998 - both times - with the Barry McPhee team. Bert was also a two-time competitor in the Canadian Mixed Curling Championships. There will be a celebration of Bert's life at the Kamloops Curling Club on Wednesday, April 25th, 2007 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. It is Bert's wish that all who attend remember the good times, of which there were so many. Should friends desire, donations can be made in Bert's name to the Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Hospice House - 72 Whiteshield Crescent South, Kamloops, BC V2E 2S9
