BRUCE ANDERSON January 18, 1950 - April 23, 2008 Bruce was born January 18, 1950 in Prince George. He lived in the small town of Giscome, near Prince George until 1961. He moved with his family to Chilliwack, where they lived until 1964, when they moved back to Prince George. He graduated from Prince George Secondary School in 1967. He was very active in sports, hockey and baseball in particular. He attended the University of Victoria, and became a teacher. His first teaching assignment was at Beaverly Elementary in Prince George in 1972. He married August 11, 1973, and moved to Wells where both he and his wife Rosemary taught at Wells Barkerville Elementary Secondary School. They then moved to Vanderhoof, where Bruce was the principal and taught grades 4-7, and Rosemary taught grades 1,2,3 at Mapes Elementary. In 1977, he transferred into Evelyn Dickson School in Vanderhoof, where he taught grades 4-7 until 2002. He then transferred to Ebus, an online teaching support for home-schoolers, where he worked until his retirement in 2007. Bruce took his students on many exciting field trips to places such as Vancouver, Lake Cowichan, Edmonton, Calgary, Drumheller, Barkerville, Queen Charlottes, and Green Lake. During this time, he maintained his great interest in sports, particularly hockey and baseball, both playing and coaching, as well as spectating. He also renewed his interest in golf. His other great interests were hunting and fishing. After retiring, he moved to Kamloops. He soon found that he needed to be challenged so he found a job working for the Kamloops Daily News in the circulation and delivery department. He was out on his route when he suffered the heart attack and was unable to recover from it. Bruce was a larger-than-life personality. He took an intense interest in his students, and his family was extremely important to him. He conveyed a great enthusiasm for this teaching, and his recreational activities. He put a tremendous amount of effort into guiding his niece and nephew for whom he was guardian after their mother's death. Bruce is survived by his wife of 35 years, Rosemary; his mother, Jeanne; his nephew, Thomas; and his niece, Rebecca. He is predeceased by his father, Harold in 1988; his sister Wendy in 1999.
