Ian Buchanan, 50, of Grande Prairie and a former resident of James Street, Glace Bay, passed away suddenly Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010, at his residence in Alberta.
Born in Glace Bay, Ian was the son of Edna (McGean) Buchanan and the late James Cudhea Buchanan.
Ian was a adherent of Warden United Church, Glace Bay. He was a mechanic by trade but during the last five years he was employed by the Schlumberger Construction Company in Grande Prairie. Ian was a member of the Cape Breton Auto Racing Club and along with his brother, Lorne were owners of dragster racing cars. He also enjoyed playing hockey in the Glace Bay Gentleman’s League. But mostly. Ian will be remembered as an easy going and friendly man.
Besides his mother Edna, Ian is survived by his partner, Linda MacKenzie; one daughter, Jenna Leigh, Glace Bay; two sons, Christopher, Alberta, Liam, Glace Bay; and one brother, Lorne in Halifax.
Ian was predeceased by his brother, Bruce Buchanan.
Visitation will be held Saturday, Jan. 9 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral service officiated by Rev. Clayton Austin is Sunday, 2 p.m. at Warden United Church. Fellowship to follow in the church hall. Interment will be held in Greenwood Cemetery.
As an expression of sympathy for Ian, donations in his memory may be made to the Nova Scotia Heart & Stroke Foundation, Warden United Church or the Bruce Buchanan Memorial Scholarship Fund.
Ian will be taken to the church at noon on Sunday.
