HAZEL FERNE STEVENS October 14, 1917 - December 12, 2008 On Friday, December 12, 2008, Mrs. Ferne Stevens passed away peacefully at the age of 91 years. Ferne is survived by her three daughters, Sharon Stevens of Burnaby, Gail Smillie of Canmore, AB (Paul Christiansen), Linda Stevens of New Westminster (Tom Dickinson) and her son, Randy Stevens of Rossland, B.C. (Eileen Purssell) as well as her seven grandchildren, Verner Janz (Brenda Janz) of Whitehorse, Yukon, Steven Janz of Vancouver, B.C., Lisa Smillie (Clark Hooton) of Kamloops, B.C., Tracey Smillie (Chris Orr) of Kamloops, B.C., Ryan Smillie, Sicamous, B.C., Liam and Alina Stevens of Rossland, B.C. and her seven great grandchildren whom she cherished. Ferne was predeceased by her husband of 54 years Wayne Randall Stevens in 1996 as well as by her brothers Eldon and Frank Sedore and her parents Mr. and Mrs. James Sedore. Ferne was born Hazel Ferne Sedore, October 14, 1917 and was raised in Grand Prairie, Alberta. After marrying her sweetheart Wayne, they moved to Peace River and later Edmonton, where they began their family. By the time they moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1960, they had four children and life was busy. In 1963, the family moved to what they thought was heaven on earth, Kamloops, British Columbia. Ferne loved her many hours spent with close friends at the Kamloops Golf and Country Club, Kamloops Curling Club, IODE, Woodwards, Kamloops Downtown Rotary Club, Kamloops United Church and the Renaissance. Ferne will be fondly missed by all who had the pleasure to experience her enduring spirit, never-say-die attitude and wonderful sense of humor. The family would like to thank Dr. Dong, Dr. Collier, Dr. Mosewich, Dr. Bruce Tucker, Marlene from Medichair, Nurse Next Door, the nurses and therapists at Royal Inland Hospital and the entire team at the Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Hospice. A reception and tea in celebration of her life will take place at the Kamloops United Church on Saturday, January 17, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Hospice, 72 Whiteshield Crescent S., Kamloops, B.C. V2E 2S9 would gratefully be appreciated.
