Eril Othaline Broomes, 91, of Sydney, N.S., passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Jan. 9, 2010.
Born in Barbados, W.I., she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Miriam (Blackman) Broomes.
Eril worked at the City Hospital (dietary), and was a member of St. Philips African Orthodox Church.
She is survived by daughters, Monica Broomes, Sydney, Brenda (Michael) Moody, Dartmouth; son, Bob (Diane) Broome, Moncton; and one brother, Ivan (Bubs) Williams, Sydney. Eril will be deeply missed by her grandchildren, Andrea Broomes (Jackie), Beulah Lahey (Frank), Michelle Itwaru (Michael), Nancy Johnson (Anthony), Michael Moody Jr. and Leroy Moore. She is also survived by nine precious great-grandchildren. Eril also leaves behind cherished friends, Johann Clements and Joseph Worrell.
She was predeceased by two children in infancy.
The remains are entrusted to Sydney Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be Monday, Jan. 11, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12 at St. Philips African Orthodox Church, Hankard Street, with Archbishop Vincent Waterman officiating. Interment at Hardwood Hill Cemetery. Reception to follow at the Melnick Hall, Laurier Street.
