WILKINS - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mildrede Jean Wilkins of Swift Current, SK at the Regina General Hospital at the age of 82 years. Mildrede was born March 7, 1927 in Riverhurst, SK and went to school at Vermilion Country School. She married Ted Wilkins on October 9, 1947. Mildrede's working years included a number of jobs. In 1944 she worked in the ammunition plant in Toronto, ON, then upon returning to Saskatchewan after the war, she worked in Lawson as a housekeeper, Simpson Sears and Hynter's Cafe in Regina Beach. Soon after she became a housewife and mother and was the janitor at Success School. In Swift Current she was an enumerator for Henderson Directory and in 1978 she became a physiotherapist assistant until her retirement. Mildrede loved curling, playing softball and dancing. In her later years she continued her love of curling and ball and never missed a game on T.V. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, knitting, crocheting and baking. She also enjoyed travelling and an occasional visit to the casinos. Mildrede loved to laugh and enjoyed a good joke. Visits from friends and family and helping out wherever and whenever she could. She was proud of her Irish heritage and was known for her superstitious ways. She was "best friend" to her daughters, had a special bond with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and was a "special aunt" to many nieces and nephews. No matter what, her family came first. Her family was her greatest love. Mildrede leaves to mourn her passing: her daughters Jacquie (Stan) Greenwood of Swift Current, SK, Bev Wilkins (Gord Winquist) of Swift Current, SK, and Rhonda (Brent) Navin of Regina, SK; her grandchildren Danielle (Gerry) Bourgeois of Swift Current, SK, Travis (Naomi) Greenwood of Swift Current, SK, Sean Navin of Regina, SK, and Kyle Navin of Big White, BC; her great grandchildren Alyssa and Brooklyn Bourgeois of Swift Current, SK; brother Ken (Evelyn) McConnell of Regina, SK,; sisters Nita (Sam) McKay of Regina, SK, Betty (Spike) Symes of Edmonton, AB, Myrna Eyben of Vermilion, AB, Wilda McConnell of Regina, SK, Phyllis (Keith) Grayowen of Edmonton, AB, Linda McConnell of Calgary, AB; sister-in-law Laura Erickson and Ethel Wilkins of Moose Jaw, SK; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mildrede was predeceased by her parents Stewart and Helen (Bishop) McConnell; husband Ted Wilkins; father-in-law Leonard Wilkins, mother-in-law Beulah (Benson) Wilkins; a grandchild Ryan Heath Greenwood; brothers Jack McConnell, Raymond McConnell; sisters Delores McConnell, Maxine Sinclair, Shirly Sinclair; brothers-in-law Junior Williamson, Hank Eyben, Jim Sinclair, Stewart Sinclair, Phillip Wilkins, Harold Wilkins, Jack Erickson, Leonard Erickson; sisters-in-law Audrey McConnell, Almeda Wilkins and Mable Erickson; nephews Gary McConnell, Art Erickson, Cecil Wilkins and Chris Wilkins. The funeral service was held on Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at 2:00 PM from the First United Church, Swft Current, SK with Pastorial Assistant Christine Ciona officiating. Interment service followed at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, veterans section, Swift Current, SK. The organist was Patti McCleary, eulogists were Travis Greenwood, Sean Navin, Kyle Navin and Danielle Bourgeois. Ushers included Scott Sinclair, Jamie Sinclair, Larry Wilkins and Larry Forbes. The honorary pallbearers were all who loved Mil. Special music included "Danny Boy" on CD by Danny O'Donnell. Memorial donations can be made to a charity of the donor's choosing. Warren's Funeral Home were entrusted with the arrangements.
