Passed peacefully away at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital on February 7th, 2010; Gwendolyn (Gwen) Jessie Murphy (nee Pope), age 79 years. Predeceased by her husband Michael (2007) and her parents Henry and Rebecca (Botwood). Leaving to mourn daughter Elizabeth, sons Michael (Bev), David (Amy), Robert, Kevin of Ottawa and Donald (Susan); grandchildren Steve, Jessica (Joshua), Karen, Chris (Amanda), Allison and Scott; great-grandson Leland and a special little girl McKenzie; brother-in-law Bill, a large number of nieces, nephews, family and friends and childhood friend for more than 65 years Bessie Redmond. Resting at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 73 Commonwealth Avenue on Monday, February 8th, 2010 from 2 - 5 and 7 - 9 p.m. and on Tuesday, February 9th, 2010 from 10 a.m. - 12 noon, 2 - 5 and 7 - 9 p.m. Funeral mass to be held from Mary Queen of the World church on Wednesday, February 10th, 2010 at 9:30 a.m. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy flowers gratefully accepted or donations in her memory may be made to the Newfoundland Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation. "I am so deeply sorry about your mom's untimely death. I know it was sudden and unexpected and that makes it very difficult for all of you. I will always remember your mom's friendship with my mother (Kitty) and will be forever grateful to her for the many kindnesses she showed mom.
