It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather and friend, Allen Clark. Allen died on Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010 at Harbourview Hospital, Sydney Mines, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Sydney Mines, and raised in Centreville, on Clark’s Point, he was one of 13 children born to the late Ernest and Mary (MacDonald) Clark. Allen was employed as a printer/pressman with the Cape Breton Post for over 40 years. He designed and built his family home, his 36ft. cabin cruiser Alberdeen, and numerous sailing and rowing boats. He obtained his marine captain’s ticket, was an avid sportsman including skeet shooting, salmon fishing, hunting and of course yachting. Allen was an active and life member of the Northern Yacht Club and a member of the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary Maritimes, touching mariners from around the world.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He is survived by his children Alana (Carl) Bryan, New Glasgow, Blair Allen Clark (Darlene Morrow), Bedford, he will be loved and missed by his grandchildren Deana Bryan MacDonald, New Glasgow and Ryan Allen Clark and Nolan David Clark, Bedford. He is also survived by great-grandchildren Tyler, Robyn and Kendyl MacDonald and his long time friend Gertrude Gouthro; his many nieces and nephews and his companion, Patch.
He was predeceased by his wife Erdine ‘Dean’ (O’Halloran) Clark; his brothers Bill, David, Frank, Ernie and Elmer ‘Mooney’ and his sisters Lillian, Olive, Martha, Mary, Eva, Edna and Gladys.
Visitation for Allen will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will be held Thursday, 1 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, Sydney Mines with Rev. Thomas John officiating. Burial at St. Joseph Cemetery, Sydney Mines at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to Parkinson’s Society of Nova Scotia.
