BANKS – Mrs. Marjorie Banks late of Birch Hills, SK. Passed away peacefully with her family by her side at the Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert on Sunday, February 14th, 2010 at the age of 82 years. She was born on October 8th, 1927 in Birch Hills. Marjorie was raised on a farm by Round Lake. She took all her schooling at Derby School. She married her first husband Pat Stewart on November 10th, 1948; together they had four daughters Jean (Murray) Tait, Joan (Bob) Shore, Ruth (Alan) Boyle and Darlene (Dave) Folstad. She had 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Marjorie married Leslie Banks on July 27th, 1985.
Pat and Marjorie were agents for Canada Packers in Birch Hills from 1947 – 1965 when they took over operation of Stewart’s Hatchery and Furniture Store. They also served as Vendor for the Saskatchewan Liquor Board in Birch Hills. Marjorie kept this business until selling it in 1977. She continued to work until she retired. After marrying Les she volunteered at the nursing home, they enjoyed many hours at the cabin, Saturday night dances and spending time watching their grandsons play hockey. Marjorie spent hours at the curling rink and watching all other sports. She enjoyed cards, crocheting and her puzzle books as well she treasured time with family and friends. She will be remembered by all for her quick and sassy comments and her demanding personality.
Marjorie is survived by her 4 daughters: Jean (Murray) Tait, Joan (Bob) Shore, Ruth (Alan) Boyle and Darlene (Dave) Folstad; 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; brother Elwin Stobbs; sister Doreen Trevor; brothers-in-law: Bud Austin, Lester Franklin, Bill Banks and George Banks; sisters-in-law: Mary Stewart, Darlene Stewart, Yvette Stewart, Chris Stewart, Helen Collins, Caroline Banks and Alice Franklin; special nephew Robert Newton; numerous nephews and nieces; as well as many other family members.
Marjorie was predeceased by her husband’s Pat Stewart and Leslie Banks; parents Oswald and Ann Stobbs; father-in-law and mother-in-law Lloyd and Jessie Stewart; sisters Verna Newton and Eunice Stamnes; brothers-in-law: Norman Stamnes, Archie Newton, Ray Trevor, Lindsay Stewart, Donald Stewart, Earl Thompson, Oswald Banks and Verne Banks; sisters-in-law: Irene Stobbs, Joyce Sutherland, Blanda Banks, and Jean Banks; grandson Vance Tait; great-grandson Patterson Shore.In lieu of tributes donations can be made to the Birchview Auxiliary. The Funeral Service will be held Thursday, February 18th, 2010 at 1:00 pm in the Birch Hills Lutheran Church with Rev. Chris Harper officiating. Interment Birch Hills Cemetery.
