David Beresford

(1932-2008). Having lived a deeply Christian life, David completed his journey on March 16. He died rather suddenly of a heart attack brought on by complications from lung cancer. David was the eldest son of the late James and Nellie (Ryan) Beresford. David leaves with fond memories of 49 years of true married life his wife Bertha (Pollett). His sons, David (Susan), Paul (Denise), and James (Anna), and his daughters, Colleen (John) and Carolyn, will miss their father. Poppy B. leaves behind his wonderful grandchildren: Sarah, Rachel, Joseph, Anne-Marie and Evangeline; as well as his great grandchild Felicity. Shelley will miss David, sometimes "Dad." The Beresford family will miss the oldest member of their family: his brothers are Father James Beresford, Aidan (Shirley) Beresford, and Brendan (Virginia) Beresford; his sisters are Sister Marie Beresford RSM, Teresa (Paul) Fardy, Sister Ruth Beresford RSM, Kathleen and Anne Beresford, and Carmel (MacDonald). David's in-laws, who were not only a second family but friends, will miss Dave: his mother-in-law Helena Pollett; his brothers-in-law: Ed (Loretta) Pollett, Albert (Kim) Pollett, Joe (Bernice) Pollett, David (Judy) Pollett; his sisters-in-law: Elva Higdon, Millie (Roy) Mullins, and Bernice (Charles, deceased). People of Buchans and Labrador City will remember David as a worker who was fair to everyone; fellow parishioners will remember David's contributions to parish life in Buchans, Labrador City, and Windsor, Ontario; the Association for Community Living will remember his desire to put people first; the many foster children will remember his providing them a secure temporary home; educators will remember his strong promotion of a good education; the Knights of Columbus will remember his ongoing commitment. Many people will remember a less serious side of David who lightened the darker moments with his constant teasing as they travelled life's path with him. David's full life was celebrated on March 19 with the Mass of resurrection at St. Teresa's Parish in Windsor, Ontario. Donations in his memory made be made to the Lung Association, the Heart & Stroke Foundation, or the Canadian Cancer Society.
