Predeceased by his parents, Daniel J. and Mary (Mullen) Hughes; infant twin brother and infant sister; his sister, Sister Helen Hughes, CND; and brothers, Earl, Robert, Jack and Pius. He is survived by his sister, Agnes Arsenault (Julien), Brookline, MA; his brother, Emmett, Charlottetown; sisters-in-law, Eileen Hughes Larkin, Charlottetown; Anita Hughes, Stratford; Bernadette Hughes, Moncton; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral took place in Pickering, Ontario, on Thursday, January 15, 2009, with interment at the Jesuit Cemetery, Guelph.
