Bert Wentworth Phillips, 85, Hilden/Stewiacke, passed away Jan. 27, 2008 in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born in Stewiacke, he was a son of the late George and Pearl (Moore) Phillips. Bert resided in Hilden for the past seven years, previously from Stewiacke and Pleasant Valley. He was employed at Brookfield Box Company most of his life. He enjoyed darts, pool, and cards, played for the Brookfield Elks in the Senior Hockey League. He served in the Canadian Army during the Second World War, from 1942 to 1946. Bert was a member of the Stewiacke Royal Canadian Legion. Surviving are daughter Patricia (Lorne) Myles, Toronto; sons David (Lauren), Bible Hill; Carl (Madeline), Maitland; Paul, Truro; Peter (Jackie), Upper Stewiacke; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Gwen (McCabe), daughter, Nancy Elizabeth, son, Brian, sisters, Pauline, Francis, Marjorie, brothers, Aubrey, Donnie and Carl. Visitation 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday with funeral service 2 p.m. Thursday both in Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Main St., Shubenacadie. Rev. Larry Harrison officiating.
