MR. STANLEY WHITFORD 1927 - 2008 Stan joined his family in heaven on Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at the age of 81 years. Stan was born July 5, 1927, the eldest of 11 children to Duncan and Florence Whitford and was raised on the family farm south of Shipman. Stan worked in Ontario and Alberta as a Ranch Hand and in March of 1951 he married his sweetheart, Rose Huculak also of Shipman. In 1953 Stan began working for the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) as Towerman and in 1956 he accepted a position as Patrolman, working in various supervisory positions until retiring in 1984. He made many life-long friends within the DNR who always expressed their fondness and respect for him. We are eternally grateful for their love and friendship over the years. Stan was always full of good cheer and humor. He was one of God's children and in fact taught Sunday school when he was 16 years old. He loved animals and nature and enjoyed the outdoors immensely. He loved hunting, fishing, taking care of animals, both domestic and wild, and traveling. But more than anything, he enjoyed his large family. He especially loved to play crib with family and friends. Stan and Rose were married for 58 years and were blessed with 7 children; Valerie (Earl) Rein of Snowden, SK, Randy (Fay) Whitford of Shipman, SK, Brent (Barbara) Whitford of Lloydminster, SK, Lyle (Dayna) Whitford of Boyle, AB, Mark (Denise) Whitford of Flin Flon, MB and Lorraine (Murray) Stewart of Saskatoon; 20 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Stan is also survived by his sisters Dorothy Hedin, Margery Wiebe, Yvonne Clarke, Helen Brockway & Louise Bibby; his brothers Garth, Ivan & Marcel Whitford. He was predeceased by: his parents Reginald (Duncan) & Florence Whitford; his granddaughter Michelle Rein; his great-granddaughter Hailey Whitford; his brother Reginald Whitford; his sister Edna Haaland; his sisters-in-law Eunice Smith, Katie Zacharki, Helen Huculak, Dora Whitford & Pat Whitford; his brothers-in-law Mike, Nick, Tony & Cecil Huculak; Maurice Kosmynka, Red Fitzgerald, Irvin Brockway, Joe Popil & Walter Zacharki. Memorial donations may be made to the Health & Stroke Foundation, Canadian Diabetes Association or to a charity of the donor's choice.
