NEW GLASGOW - John Bernard "Johnny" Keay, 93, of Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow, formerly of Rundle Street, Stellarton, passed away January 22nd, 2007, at the Manor. Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Alonzo and Catherine (MacDonald) Keay. In his younger years, Johnny was very athletic, being involved in many sports. He was a member of the Abercrombie Golf Club, having been a three-time club champion. As a young adult Johnny started a Dry Good Business, which included a Best Yeast Distributorship. He was a pioneer in the coin operated amusement industry starting Central Amusement Company Ltd. in 1947. Also in the 70s he established Keay Antiques. Johnny was a member of the R.C.A.F. during World War II. He was an active member of Our Lady Of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Stellarton. Johnny was an avid gardener and coin collector and loved to travel. Surviving are son, John (Sharon), New Glasgow; son, Richard, (Betsy), Riverton; daughter, Anne (Tom) Ryan, Chance Harbour; daughter, Maureen (Arthur) Nicholson, North River; son, Lonnie (Barb), Stellarton; daughter; Jane (Bob) Cameron, Stellarton; grandchildren: Marilyn Keay, Billy Joe Keay, Tony Stevens, Stephanie Rogerson, Louanne Keay, Darren Keay, Debbie Wright, Tracey Anne Ryan, Kerri-Lynn Denny, Kirk Ryan, Angela Hausman, Beth Nicholson, Andrew Nicholson, Christian Keay, Briden Cohen, Danny Cameron; 16 great-grandchildren; brother, Edward "Neddy", Halifax; sister, Norma (Paul) Laba, Halifax; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Joyce Leah; brothers: Breen, Robert, James Robert in infancy and Alonzo Edward in infancy; sisters; Marjorie Prozenor and Eunice Francis. The family will receive visitors from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Home, Stellarton. A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday from Our Lady Of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church with Father Francis Cameron officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Family flowers only please. Donations in memory of Johnny may be made to the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Society or to a charity of one's choice.
