Patterson, Dana Milton - 48, of Wolfville, Kings County, passed away peacefully with his family by his side, in the ICU of the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville on the morning of July 13, 2010. Born and raised on a dairy farm in the Annapolis Valley, he was the youngest son of the late Ivan and Elizabeth (Fraser) Patterson. He received a diploma in agriculture from the Nova Scotia Agricultural College in 1982 and went on to the MacDonald College of McGill University where he received his B.Sc. in Agriculture in 1984. Upon completion of his degree, he went to work for Shur-Gain as a feed sales representative. He became well respected by the farmers he worked with for five years. He then joined his brother, Eric on their third generation family dairy farm. His passion for farming and love of agriculture was evident to all those who knew him. Dana served on a number of boards and associations over his professional career, including the Farmer's Milk Producers Association for six years from 1991-1997, where he was on the executive for three years, served as vice-chair in 1993 and was elected chair in 1994; a director on the board of Farmer's Co-operative Dairy Limited for three years from 2003-2006; was active with the Wolfville Home and School Association, where he was instrumental in the construction of a new playground. Dana was very valued in these and other organizations for his dedication and common sense approach to the issues. He was a member of the Greenwich United Church, where he served as a trustee, on the board of stewards and was the congregational chair during a major building renovation. He was an avid curler with a gentle and kind spirit and a wonderful sense of humour. He was an incredible husband, an awesome dad and was loved by all who knew him. “Shelley,Alyssa and Jamie:
I just felt I had to send you a note of condolence. Robert, my husband, is Linda's brother and we had been to your farm many years ago and met all the Pattersons. Linda has been sending us your e-mails from time to time. We were so saddened to hear of Dana's passing - he certainly went through so much, along with all of you. Please accept our sympathy and know that we have been thinking of you at this most difficult time.”
“Our very deepest sympathy Shelley and family. We have been thinking of you and you are so much in our hearts.”
