Evans, William Edward "Bill" - 66, of New Minas, passed away Sunday, August 22, 2010 at home. Born in Canning, he was a son of the late William and Mary (Davison) Evans. He had been employed as a mechanic in the shops for the Dominion Atlantic Railway and was later employed with the Department of Transportation for over 15 years. Bill held many odd jobs as well and could often be seen doing several at the same time. He most recently drove for Valley Cab. Bill had 22 years serving Kings County as volunteer fire fighter, 19 with the Kentville Volunteer Fire Department and the past three with the New Minas Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed fishing, golfing and his family, especially spending time with his grandchildren. For 15 years, together with his wife, Marion, he enjoyed spending winter months in Jamaica. One of Bill's proudest accomplishments was joining Alcoholics Anonymous, and had the privilege of remaining sober for the last three years. He is survived by his wife, the former Marion Martin; a son, Shaun (Aileen) Evans, Halifax; two daughters, Melissa (Thomas) Secord, Grafton; Meaghan (Tony) Martin, Weston; a step-son, David (Heidi) Evans, New Minas; four grandsons and four granddaughters; a brother, Michael (Sherry) Evans, Habitant; two sisters, Brenda (James) Redmond, New Minas; Doris (Hank) Kaizer, Kentville; three nephews and three nieces. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Shannon. Cremation has taken place. There was no visitation, by request. The funeral service was held at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 25, 2010 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend Tim Bigelow officiated. A reception followed in the Kentville Volunteer Fire Department. Family flowers only, by request. Donations in memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
