Donnie was well known in the community having operated the Ingonish Irving Garage for 35 years, with the help and support of his best friend Jimmy Jackson.
Donnie was an avid hockey fan and enjoyed travelling to Sydney to watch the Eagles games and particularly enjoyed cheering on his favourite team the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Don’t lengthen it now, with undue grief.
Lift up your heart and share with me,
God wanted me now, He set me free.”
