It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Noreen Mary Smith, 77, of Halifax on Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2011, at the V.G. Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in Montreal, Que., she was a daughter of the late Doris (Endicott) and James Curran.
Noreen began her career in Montreal, Que., and then moved to Ottawa, Ont., retiring after 38 years of service with Scotia Bank. At the time, Noreen was one of the first female managers employed with Scotia Bank. Upon retirement, Noreen and her husband Gerald moved to Halifax, N.S., in order to be closer to family and friends.
Noreen loved to travel and some of her most favourite memories were of places visited with her husband Gerald.
She is survived by her husband and best friend of 44 years, Gerald; aunt, Eileen Wagner, Halifax; sisters-in-law, Laura and Nancy Smith, North Sydney; nieces, Louise Smith, Sydney Mines, and Kerianne Pyke, Sydney; nephews, Jeffrey Smith, Sydney, and Trevor Smith, North Sydney; and many cousins.
She was predeceased by brothers-in-law, Jack and Gordon Smith, nephew, Paul Smith.
Visitation will be Friday, Nov. 11 at 6-8 p.m. from J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax, 902-455-0531, and from where funeral service will be held 2:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 12 with a reception to follow.
Cremation to follow.
