Joan E  Rockwell

Rockwell, Joan E. – 90, Truro, passed away on January 26, 2012 in Debert Court, Debert. Born in 1921 in Oxford, she was a daughter of the late Raymond and Sara (MacNeill) Donaldson. Joan lived in New York State for 13 years, and then in Truro afterwards. She received her R.N. degree from Saint John General Hospital and was with the Truro V.O.N. for a few years, after which she did private duty nursing. She was past President of the Truro Curling Club, where her team was the first ladies team to get an 8-ender, past Regent of the Isgonish I.O.D.E., past President of the Truro Ladies Golf Club, life member of the Saint John General Hospital Alumni and member of the Colchester Regional Hospital Auxiliary. A member of the Marigold Embroidery Guild, Joan loved doing her embroidery work. She was a member of First Baptist Church, where she was President of Group 1 for many years, and served on various committees, including the Deacons Board. She loved caring for her flower gardens, the birds who came to her feeders, golfing, stitching, swimming and bridge. She is survived by her son, Raymond “Ray” (Pauline), Truro; daughter, Lynn (Vernon) Totten, Ottawa, Ont.; grandchildren, Tobi (Al) Hamdani, Ottawa; Michael (Julie) Totten, Ottawa; Joel Rockwell, Moncton, NB; great-grandchildren, Megan and Jacob Hamdani, Kaylie and Nathan Totten; sister, Ruth (Danny) D’Angelo, Toronto; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Harold “Bud” Rockwell in 2005. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 1st at 2pm in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro, with Rev. John Tonks officiating. Visitation and reception will follow the service. Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia.
