Huntley, Lowell Warren, Scotts Bay, June 5, 1944 - January 30, 2012, taken far too soon from those he loved due to a coronary event. Born at the BFM hospital in Kentville, he was the son of Irene Elizabeth (Thorpe) Huntley and the late Earl Lamont Huntley. Growing up on the shores of the upper Bay of Fundy, Scotts Bay among a huge group of cousins and other friends, he followed around after his grandfather, Warren Thorpe, his father, and his uncle Merrill, who taught him to do his best at everything, and encouraged his love of the sea. Upon completing a culinary certificate at the Institute of Technology, Lowell went to work on various oil tankers and gypsum vessels plying their trade around the world. But the lure of working the sea was too strong for him, and after he came ashore, he worked in construction and in cooking and baking until he could purchase his first lobster-fishing vessel. From that time until he retired in early 2000, the sea and a good Cape Island boat were Lowell’s second love, with which he provided for his first love, his family members. Even after retiring from fishing, Lowell was always busy, building or repairing boats, taking people out on sightseeing tours to Cape Split and Isle Haute, and spending time with his family. In 1998, he found his soul mate, Jodi DeLong, and began a new adventure learning about gardens and plants. Lowell loved all of his family, and he loved animals too, especially cats, but definitely not snakes. Lowell leaves behind many who love and mourn him. Missing him forever is his longtime companion, Jodi DeLong; her son, Ryan Saunders (Toronto); Jodi’s mother, Joan Chisholm DeLong, Stewiacke; sisters, Heather (Gerry Desjardins) DeLong (Scotchhill, Pictou County) and Kelly (Claude Marcoux), Stewiacke; his son Darren (Misty) and grandson Kaleb; Darren’s mother, Kathleen Huntley; son, Shawn Huntley and his companion Michelle Lenihan, their children, Tyler, Tanisha, and Britney, New Minas; Shawn’s mother, Elaine Horton Ryan; mother-in-law, Kathleen Dubois; brothers-in-law, Tim Dubois, Toronto; Ruth Dubois, Hay River, Brian (Lisa), Amherst, and Lois (Brian Jordan), Black River, NS. Missing him deeply are the Huntley Clan, including his mother, Irene; his sister, Elizabeth, (Robert Huntley) and nephew, Blaine; niece, Heather (Garnet) Eaton and great nieces, Payton and Devon, many aunts, uncles, cousins. A special nod to his longtime friends, Greg MacLellan, Vaughn Hiscock, Wilfred Ells, Daniel Barkhouse; and his favourite cats, Mungus, Tintin, Loki, Rowdy and Sweetums. Lowell was predeceased by his father, Earl; special cousin, Lawrence and other family and friends. Funeral service was held at 2 pm on Saturday, February 4, White Family Funeral Home, Kentville.
