R. Donald MacKinnon
MacKinnon, R. Donald, 87, Truro, passed away Saturday, February 4, 2012 in the Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born in Halifax, June 9, 1924, he was a son of the late Dr. L. Donald and Lavinia (Adams) MacKinnon. Don was a veteran of the Second World War serving overseas with the R.C.A.F. Bomber Command #6 Group. He was a former member of the 102 Wing R.C.A.F. Truro and an over 50-year member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 26, Truro. Don began his career with the Federal Civil Service (now Public Service) in 1948. During the next 30 years, he was employed with former Unemployment Insurance Commission. He was engaged in various Supervisory and Management positions in the Atlantic Parie Regions. Don retired in 1978.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Marie (Carroll) MacKinnon; son Donald (Mona) of Calgary, AB; grandson Alastair MacKinnon and granddaughter Lindsey MacKinnon; daughter Nancy MacGillivary (Hugh) of Upper North River, Col. Co., grandsons Hannon and Devan MacGillivary and great grandson Kaydan, 2 great-granddaughters, McKenna and Casey MacGillivary; brother Jack of Halifax; sisters, Alexa de Payan of Mexico City.
He was predeceased by sisters, Catherine Pachecd of Lima, Peru, Patricia Spicer of Spencer Island, NS, Jean Shaw of Halifax, Winnifred Cluff of Boston, Mass.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Mattatall~Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. No visitation or funeral service by Don’s request. Donations in Don’s memory may be made to a charity of choice.
