Sterling Leroy George, age 90 of Riverton, NS, passed away April 19, 2012 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow surrounded by his loving family.
Born in River Road, Pictou County, March 22, 1922 he was the only son of the late Lonas and Mabel (Palmer) George.
He spent his childhood and school years in Lower Caledonia, NS, he then joined his father working in the lumber camps in Caledonia, Guysborough County. He was later superintendent with Tidewater Construction. Sterling was co-owner and vice president of Aberdeen Paving Ltd., Maurice’s Redimix (New Minas) and Bedford Equipment until his retirement in 1986.
Sterling lived in the Woodlawn area of Dartmouth until his retirement then he moved back to his family home in Riverton.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Joyce (Rann), Riverton, NS; children: Michael, Dartmouth; Kevin (Brenda), Calgary; Deborah (Dale) Lawless, PEI; Stephen (Kimberley), Dartmouth; and Donna George; grandchildren: Michaela, Sterling, Quentin, Darby, Emily, Jillian, Brayden, Ryan, Amanda, Mackenzie, Bradley and Evan; sister Joyce Dean.
Sterling will be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather. He will be sadly missed by family and friends.
He was predeceased by a sister Opal Jenkins.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Aidan Kingsbury officiating. Burial will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens. A reception will follow in the funeral home.
Family flowers only. Donations in his memory may be made to Cystic Fibrosis Society of Canada or a charity of your choice.
