It is with much sadness that the family of Neil Kenneth Walsh wishes to announce his sudden death on the 14th of May which occurred at his home in Amherst.
Surviving  are his wife of 40 years, Edna, and his beloved sons, Andrew of Toronto, and Jay (Andre) of San Francisco, brothers David, Dartmouth, and Owen, Halifax, many cousins, nieces and nephews. Neil is predeceased by his wonderful parents, Arthur and Rita Walsh, brothers Arthur and Kenneth Walsh, and his beloved mother in law Phyllis Estabrooks (Dill).
Neil was a devoted father and husband who loved his family, his home, and living in Amherst. He was retired from the Department of Indian Affairs where he had many lifelong friends who fondly referred to him as Papa Smurf, and where he worked tirelessly for the native people for whom he had a deep respect.  He spent many years in the militia attaining the rank of Captain in the reserve army, was a member of the Halifax Rifles, and the Royal Canadian Legion. Neil leaves behind many special friends who loved him dearly.
A memorial mass will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 18th at Holy Family Parish Church, Amherst, Fr. Vernon Driscoll officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall. Family flowers only. Donations in Neil's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
