WOODBURN – Patrick Francis “Pat” Doyle, 78, Woodburn, passed away suddenly Sunday, May 20, 2012 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by his family.
Born in Hampden and raised in Baie Verte, Nfld, he was a son of the late John William and Mary Anne (Drover) Doyle. Prior to retirement in 1991, he was employed with the Nova Scotia Department of Highways, having previously been employed as an agent with Canadian Pacific Railway, Ontario, for 17 years. Moving back to Baie Verte in 1969, he worked in the Advocate Mines for four years before moving to Pictou County in 1974. Pat was a member of the Little Harbour Friday Night Dart League and had been an avid curler when living in Baie Verte. He was a faithful member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, New Glasgow. Pat will be missed for his stories, quick wit, gentle personality, kindness and common sense. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.Surviving are his wife of 21 years, Betty (Ballantyne) (MacLeod); sons, Pat (Dorothy) Doyle, Little Egypt; John (Bonnie) Doyle, Meadowville; Mike (Pam) Doyle, Medicine Hat, Alta; chosen daughters, Margaret Milne, Woodburn; Sue (Dave) Crawford, Halifax; Joyce (John) Muir, Merigomish; Agnes Ballantyne, Halifax; chosen son, Bob (Shelley) Ballantyne, New Glasgow; sister, Annie Doyle, Baie Verte; brother, Mike Doyle, Baie Verte; grandchildren, Lisa, Robbie, Ric, Robyn, Kennedy, Andrew, Melissa, Ashley, Mark, Randy, Matthew, Graham, Daniel and Hannah; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Myrna (Kennedy) (1980); son, Rob (1986); grandson, Adam (1994); brothers, Jack and Bill.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Mass of Christian Burial will held 11 a.m. Thursday in St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church with Father Donald Boudreau presiding. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
