On Tuesday, May 22, 2012, Eleanor Parker passed away in Kamloops, B.C., at the age of 98.

Eleanor will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by daughters Linda (Dave) Mead, and Phyllis (Jim) Mead. She will also be fondly remembered by seven grandchildren, Scott Mead (Gina), Ken Mead (Laura), Jon Mead (Shabna), Chris Mead (Adrienne), Robin Mead (Jen), Rhonda Mead (Chris) and Joanne Kirkland. She is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren, Jessica, Mitchell, Emily, Chloe, Lily, Amber, Danielle, Robin Evan, Lucy, Sydney and Shelby, as well as six nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband Ernest, and brothers Robert and Cameron Johnston.

Eleanor was born in Edmonton, Alberta, on February 18, 1914, and met her future husband, Ernie Parker, while both were attending school. Their courtship continued after graduation and they were married in Edmonton during the war while Ernie was serving in the RCAF. Their daughter Linda was born in Vancouver and second daughter, Phyllis, arrived a few years later when they lived in Calgary. After the war when Ernie rejoined the RCMP they moved to Regina, where they lived for eleven years, returning to Edmonton in 1957.

Eleanor loved music and enjoyed playing the piano and organ, and as a young woman, sang in Edmonton’s
McDougall Church choir. Later, when Ernie was transferred to Regina she enjoyed her involvement in Carmichael United Church and made good friends there. Her life was centered around family and homemaking in which she took much pleasure. She played bridge and learned to golf when Ernie managed the Belvedere Golf Course following his retirement from the RCMP. For the last three years Eleanor lived contentedly at Pine Grove Care Centre in Kamloops. A quiet, loving wife and mother, Eleanor was “always a lady”.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 1st, 2012 at Glenwood Funeral Home, 52356 Range Road 232, Sherwood Park with interment to follow.
