Robert Irlum “Bob” Redden - 78, of South Alton, Kings County, passed away Monday, May 6, 2013 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Mt. Denson, Hants County, he was a son of the late Emerson and Winnifred (Meister) Redden. He had been employed with Willett Fruit, later Bolands, retiring after 37 years of service. He had been a member of the South Alton Baptist Church. Over the years Bob pulled tug of war and played broomball and hockey. He enjoyed camping with friends, hunting, fishing, working in the woods and going to the camp with his sons. He took great pride in his gardens. He is survived by his wife, the former Gloria Best; a daughter, Darlene (George) Graves, Centreville; three sons, Bruce (Bev), South Alton; Earl (Wanda), Lakeville; Wayne (Katrina Barkhouse), Kentville; three sisters, Rose Doyle, South Alton; Helen (Jim) Adie, Comox, British Columbia; Birdie Moores, Halifax; three brothers, Hugh (Carol), South Alton; Harold (Clara), Cambridge; Emery, Kentville; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by five sisters, Mary, Rita, Gladys, Hazel and Virginia; five brothers, Basil, Clyde, Terrence, Earl and Chesley. Visitation was held from 7-9 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2013 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 11, 2013, Reverend Karen Doucette and Reverend Leon Langille officiating. Burial took place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill. Donations in memory may be made to the Valley Regional Hospital, the South Alton Baptist Church or the charity of your choice.
