Two step nieces Connie and Tracey and their families, Kelowna, B.C. Also Wanda (John) Siversten Crystal, Ashley and Karluf of Swift Current Sk. Sylvia had a condition known as Neurfibramotis I(NFI) or Recklinghausen's Disease which was secondary to Kyphoscoliosis (acute curvature of the spine in the lumbar region.) She spent 3 years in a body cast, had rods put in her back against her spine, and a Miliwaukee Brace to try to avert the curvature, none of which succeeded. Despite all of this Sylvia graduated from Grade 12, took a business course in Saskatoon. Sylvia and her mother loved to travel and visited many places including Atlantic City, New Orleans, Las Vegas, as well as Hawaii. She moved to Swift Current and worked at Ford and Spar-Group Mfg. Sylvia married Floyd Barabe in 1988. She enjoyed bowling and Duplicate Bridge. Sylvia would often talk about her Bridge Club and how everyone made her feel so welcome and how they supported her in her time of need. When Sylvia and Floyd moved into their house a new family was created. Two small dogs a parrot and a cockatiel. The birds and dogs each had individual personalities and an amazing bonding with their animals quickly became apparent. Although things weren't always easy for Sylvia with her declining health, she always had a BIG warm smile. When asked how she was, Sylvia would always reply, "GREAT". Towards the end of her life Sylvia required Caregivers. Here again Sylvia could not say enough wonderful things about how she was treated with care and dignity. Both Floyd and our family truly express gratitude to each Caregiver who generously gave their time and love to her. A memorial service Was held on Tuesday, May 14th at Warren's Funeral Home Chapel in Swift Current with Reverend Ruth McArthur officiating.
