Peter A. Neuffer passed away at his home in Stratford, P.E.I., on Sunday, May 19, 2013, at the age of 74.
Peter will be dearly missed by his wife of 50 years, Elinor Mendelson Neuffer. Their four children, Julie Callaghan (Kevin), Peter (Kim), Danny (Beth), and Jason, will miss their father greatly. Peter’s eight grandchildren, Alex, Madeleine, Delaney, Jeremy, Stephen, Griffin, Gus, and Jameson, will always cherish fond memories of their loving “Papa”. He also will be remembered by extended family including brother Richard (Sally), sister Martha (Bob), and sister-in-law Harriet and their families.
Peter was a kind and compassionate man who made a special impression on everyone he met. His gregarious good nature, sincere interest in others, playful sense of humor and curiosity about the world around him are particular traits his family and friends will remember forever.
Peter was born in Rockland County, New York. His love of the Island led him to move his growing family to Point Prim permanently in 1975. Peter lived an interesting and diverse life that included serving in the U.S. military, owning several building and construction-related businesses, woodworking, raising animals, skiing, cooking, and endless tinkering with mechanical devices.
Funeral arrangements are as follows: Visitation at the Belvedere Funeral Home on Thursday, May 23, from 6 to 9 p.m. The funeral and burial will be held at Polly Cemetery, Route 209, Mt. Buchanan, on Friday, May 24, at 11 a.m.
It is the wish of the family that in lieu of flowers, if so desired, memorial donations be made to Home Care-Palliative Care Unit of Queen’s County in Peter’s honor. Their personal loving care and support is immensely appreciated and will always be remembered.
