Doris Harrison, 77, of Big Bras d’Or, passed away Friday, June 14, 2013, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Kempt Head on Nov. 1, 1935, she was the daughter of the late John W. and Lena (MacDonald) MacKenzie.
She was a member of St. James Presbyterian Church, Big Bras d’Or.
Doris was a school bus driver for over 30 years, until her retirement.
She is survived by her husband, George; daughters, Sylvia Campbell, Edmonton, Alta., and Rosella (Ming), White Rock, B.C.; son, Brian, Big Bras d’Or; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; sister, Jessie MacNeil; brother, Duncan (Barbara) MacKenzie; her best friend, Christine Buchanan and her daughter, Sylvia Quatrale.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Glenn, son-in-law, Russell Campbell, granddaughter, Ashley Campbell, sisters, Evelyn MacDonald and Katherine MacLeod.
Visitation for Doris Harrison will be held in J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines, on Wednesday, June 19, 2013, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m. in St. James Presbyterian Church, Big Bras d’Or, with Rev. Peter MacDonald and Rev. Richie Robinson officiating. The burial will be in St. James Cemetery. A reception will be held in the church basement following the service.
Ma was an avid lover of all animals. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the SPCA.
