Julia MacKeigan, a resident of Harbourstone Enhanced Care, formerly, Cabot Street, Sydney, passed away Sunday, June 16, 2013, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Inverness, she was a daughter of the late John and Margaret (Clarke) MacKay.
Julia was a member of St. Andrew’s United Church, Sydney.
She is survived by her son, Jack (Joyce Tobin) MacKeigan, Sydney; sisters, Ann MacIntyre, South Bar, and Joan (Gerry) Wilson, Halifax; brother, John, New Waterford; daughter-in-law, Carmel MacKeigan; grandchildren, Linda (Donnie) MacLeod, Charlotte (Robert) MacMullin, Jackie (Wendy), Heather, Richard and Julia; great-grandchildren, Mike, Lindsey, Kayla, Corey, Kyle, Lauren, Connor, William, Meghan and Jack; great-great-grandson, Matthew. Julia is also survived by her extended family, Wilfred and Judy Butler, as well as their four daughters, Janet, Shannon, Kelti and Ali, to whom she was ‘Nanny.’ She will be missed by her furry friend, Schnauzer.
Julia was predeceased by her husband, Neil, sons, William ‘Billy’ and Ronnie ‘Babe,’ sisters, Dolena Flint, Jane Ross and Harriett MacKay, brother, Peter and grandson, Ronnie.
We would like to thank the staff of LeVatte’s Lane at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, as well as the doctors and nurses in the An Cala unit at the CBRH for the excellent care and compassion shown to Julia.
There will be no visitation. A family graveside service will be held at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
