THORBURN – Mary Fraser Sinclair, age 99 of Thorburn, passed away on Sunday, November 17, 2013 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in Thorburn, she was the daughter of the late James D. and Ruth Ann (Fraser) Sinclair.
A long time resident of Thorburn, Mary attended high school grades in Thorburn, graduating from Grade 12 in New Glasgow High School. She furthered her education by attending Nova Scotia Normal College in Truro. She then taught school in Thorburn for several years.
When WWII started she joined the RCAF Womens Division and was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal in 1945. She then attended Dalhousie University and graduated with a degree in Pharmacy in 1948, thus becoming a registered Pharmacist with Sinclair’s Pharmacy in Thorburn.
Mary was a faithful member of the Dorcas Rebekah Lodge Thorburn where she served in many offices. She was a member of the Union Presbyterian Church.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Surviving are a niece Jennie Cecelia (Jon) Bates; two grandnephews Jeffery and Andrew; a grandniece Lori; great-grandnephew Matthew; great-grandniece Cori; cousin Graham (Lorraine) Fraser.
Mary was predeceased by three brothers: Harvey, George and Clarence; also by a niece Anita.
The family will receive visitors from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, 256 King St., New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. from the Union Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jeff Lackie and Rev. Gary Tonks officiating. Burial will be in the Thorburn Cemetery.
