Edna Jacqueline (Jackie) Purdy

Edna Jacqueline (Jackie) Purdy of Amherst, Nova Scotia passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Upper Nappan.
Born on December 25, 1923 in North Sydney, Nova Scotia she was the daughter of the late Jack and Edna (MacLean) Falle.
Jackie was a graduate of Nova Scotia Teacher's College in Truro, NS, and received her License to Teach the Deaf at Clark Oral School, Smith College, Northampton, Mass.
Jackie taught in Nova Scotia, and Ontario in the early years of her teaching career, and later in Amherst at the Interprovincial School for the Deaf (APSE); West Highlands Elementary School, Springhill Jr. Sr. High School and West End Memorial School. Jackie was a Special Education Teacher throughout her teaching career.
Jackie was a Sunday School Teacher, CGIT Leader, Secretary and then Chair of the CNIB, Charter Member of Ladies Auxilliary Nova Scotia Veterinary Association and a recipient of the Cumberland North Liberal Association Service Award. She was actively involved with the Liberal Party for more than 50 years.
Jackie is survived by her daughters Elizabeth (Amherst, NS) and Phyllis (Victoria, BC), her granddaughter Caela Jane Gillies (Victoria, BC) and her sister Donna (Ontario). She was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Phyllis.
Cremation has taken place.
A memorial reception will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 from 1-3p.m. at Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (667-9906). Interment will take place at a later date in the Fort Lawrence Cemetery.
