Rose MacCallum

PICTOU/PICTOU ISLAND – We share the sad news of the passing of Rose following a lengthy hospitalization at the Aberdeen Regional Hospital in New Glasgow on April 13, 2014 with family and friends by her side.
Born in Pictou on May 26, 1948, Rose was a daughter of the late Lloyd and Almeda (Ferguson) Fraser.
Rose was a resident of Pictou and Pictou Island.
Rose is survived by her sister, Mary, Montague, PEI; her beloved niece, Ashley (Howard) Myers, Cardigan, PEI and cherished grand nieces, Kalli Anne and Katie, Cardigan, PEI; many cousins on both sides of her family; brother-in-law, Sterling (Linda) MacCallum, Vermilion, Alberta; brother-in-law, Stan Chaisson, Central Caribou; sister-in-law, Ardith Langille.
Rose was predeceased by her husband, Dunn MacCallum; her parents, by her brother, Fergus; a sister, Janet Louise, in infancy and her favourite nephew, Lloyd “Pook” MacCallum.
Rose worked at the Pictou hospitals prior to her marriage and moved to Pictou Island with Dunn where they operated a convenience store for a number of years and where she fished with Dunn. Rose enjoyed her customers while working at the Millside General Store on the Sunrise Trail. She was a caring person who was quick to help persons in need. She was a fierce advocate and supporter of her husband and her nephew as they navigated their cancer care – her grasp of their treatment options and protocols was admired and relied upon by their health care teams. Her determination was well known, as was the fun side of her personality. In recent years Rose served as a volunteer on the Pictou West Community Health Board and enjoyed the sport and comradery of the Wednesday afternoon bowling league and spending time with her friends.
The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at the Aberdeen for their care and compassion over these past months; and to especially thank those nurses and physicians in the ICU unit whose kindness and support was a great comfort to Rose and her family. To friends and family who faithfully visited and called, your visits and care shown Rose meant a great deal to her and to her family – thank you and God Bless you.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, April 16th in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 17th from St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Pictou with Jacquie Ross officiating. Burial will be in Seaview Cemetery. A reception will follow in the church hall.
Family flowers only please. Donations may be made to ca-r-ma.org (maritime cat rescue) Pictou Branch or a charity of choice.
