John J. MacCormick
66, Truro/Sydney Mines
It is with deep sadness that the family of John Joseph MacCormick, 66, announce his sudden passing on April 3, 2014, in Truro, N.S.
Born in Sydney Mines in 1947, John was the son of the late Charles & Ethel (MacNeil) MacCormick. He attended Sydney Mines High School, Xavier Junior College, University of Windsor and St. Mary's University. He received his Masters in English, Summa Cum Laude, from University of Dublin, Trinity College in Ireland.
John's career always involved a strong element of writing, as that was his true passion. He also spent countless hours with pen in hand creating works of poetry and prose. As a part of the performing arts community, while living in Halifax, John was proud to have had roles in several movies.
His love of reading was evident as he could often be found at the local library or with a book by his side.
John is survived by his daughter, Kiera MacCormick (Troy Zohner & son Keefer), Prince George, B.C.; Kiera's mom, Georgene Fiander in Victoria, B.C.; brother, Frank (Ann Marie) MacCormick, North Bay, Ont.; sisters, Mary Ann MacCormick (Ken Cormier) Sydney, N.S. and Catherine Collins (David), Sydney Mines, N.S. He was Uncle John to Troy & Tanya, Bonnie Lyn & Adam, and Jonathan & Michael. He was a good friend to many in Truro and Halifax.
A memorial service for John will take place in late August in Sydney Mines under the direction of the Francis Funeral home.
Donations may be made to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation or a local food bank.
