It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Jim at Providence Place on April 20th, 2014. The Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, April 24th, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home. Private Family Interment will take place at Sunset Cemetery. Jim was born in Moose Jaw on August 26th, 1920. Raised in the Petrolia District on the family farm, he attended Petrolia School during the Great Depression. In 1941, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force, and spent the next 4 years in England, Ireland and Scotland during WWII. Jim returned to the family farm in 1945 and later met Irene, a teacher at Petrolia School. They were married October 27th, 1948. Farming, community activities, curling and raising a family filled their days. They moved to Moose Jaw in the fall of 1957 but continued farming until his passing. In his later years, he enjoyed golfing, curling, playing cards, travelling and walking with the “Grumpy Old Men”. Jim’s sense of humor, stubbornness, mischevious wink and hardy laugh will be missed by many. Jim is predeceased by his parents Reg and Eleanor, his sister Doris (Bill) Spicer, his brothers: Frank (Hazel), Alan, and Geoff (Jean); brother-in-law Phil Dodds and daughter-in-law Dorothy. Jim is survived by his wife of 65 years, Irene; sons: Brian (Elaine), Barry, Scott (Anita); granddaughters: Tamra (Shae) Nichols, Joanne (Jeff) Calvert, Holly Stirton (Kyle Alexander), Katie (Warren) Sira, Sara Stirton (Logan Maltais); 9 greatgrandchildren; sisters-in-law Bernice Stirton and Shirley Dodds; brothers-in-law Wilbert (Alice) Bray and Norman (Agnes) Bray; extended family: Michele (Darryl) Neal, Joanne (Bruce) Abell, Rick and Dale as well as numerous nieces and nephews. As an expression of sympathy, donations in Jim’s name may be made to Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund Branch #59, 268 High St. West, Moose Jaw, SK. S6H 1S8.
